Each Sunday, I work with a team of staff and volunteers to turn a Boys & Girls Club basketball gym into a 700-seat auditorium in short order, complete with professional-level concert-style stage, lighting, audio, video, and live streaming capabilities.
I led a small team in designing, purchasing, and implementing all the required systems, paying careful attention to build quality, simplicity, and durability as well as ease of set-up and tear-down, as much of the weekly work is done by volunteers on a very limited timeframe.
I oversee and train production teams made up of 3 paid staff (including myself) and over 20 volunteers who set up and run everything from sound to graphics to cameras and live streaming. During the event, we run 4 cameras with camera operators, a director calling the shots and switching, 2 audio technicians (1 mixing the house and 1 mixing for the livestream), and a graphics technician cuing media for both the front of house and the livestream.
This video that I produced shows some of what happens behind the scenes to turn a Boys & Girls Club into a church building every Sunday. My role weekly focuses on the adult service space in the gym, especially on the technology and production teams (stage, sound, lighting, video).
